Dancing with the Rockettes BlogerHer12 Link UP

women dancingThis past week I attended BlogHer 12 in NYC. I was invited to workout with the Radio City Rockettes the event was hosted Pfizer the makers of Caltrate® and Centrum.   The invited said I had to get up at 6:00 for a 7:30 workout. So Hillary and I got up after a long night of BlogHer parties.  I have to say I did not sleep much because I was so excited to dance with the long legged Rockettes.  I am so not a morning person. n I was dragging so early as we made out way of to Radio City Hall

Hillary made sure I was on time,  boy did we learn about our weak points this weekend.. I need coffee and food regularly.  We arrived and were check in.  Then Pfizer people separated us into 2 groups. The Radio City Rockettes have 2 practice rooms. Hillary and I were in the smaller room.  After getting settled we  were given Caltrate shirts “Feel Young!”  We got pictures taken in front of the step and repeat (aka that is the back drop –  Yea I did not know it had a name either)

Here I am with Tara, Jessica, Myself (sporting braids) , Kelly and Colleen-  all lovely Philly Ladies.women posing for a picture

We started to dance,  The Rockettes  taught us the famous Wooden Solider.  Trick: move hips never bend knees- great butt workout.  Check the video out:

We also learned how they fan kick, In order to feel stable the Rockettes “feel the fabric”  which is light touch the person back standing next to you. So you are stabilize and  gives you awareness of your space.

After the dancing we learned more about the Rockettes.

  • The heights of  a rocket ranges from 5’10” to 5’6′  they give the illusion of them being the same height by putting the tallest Rockettes in the middle, the shortest on the end.
  • Every Radio City Rockettes has to try out every year
  • Most Rockettes do not make it for there 1st audition.
  • There are 2 sets of Rockettes .They do 7 shows a day during the holiday season some work morning and matinee, they other set the nights.dancing with the rockettes collage of picture

I think  for every Blogger that was there it was a dream come true to dance with a Rockettes.   Good to know I had one qualification of a Rockette.. I am tall enough to be one.. and that is where any similarities between myself and a Rockette  end. After 9 years of dance I have determined,  I am better behind a camera or sewing machine.. I’d best be leaving the dancing to the professionals.

Check out my Rockettes Flicker page for more great shots.

Thank you to Pfizer the makers of Caltrate® and Centrum  for sponsoring the event.  Feeling Young is so important as you get older.  Be sure to make sure you stay active, eat right and care for your body by taking a great multivitamin and calcium sublimate as you get older.

  1. Thankfully we got to hang out in Atlantic City, because we didn’t get much facetime during BlogHer! After your Rockettes experience, I’m sure you are going to need some time to recover! 🙂

I linked up, thanks for hosting! I will hopefully have some more recaps up soon, I think my brain and my body are both still trying to recover.

  2. Wow! Thanks for getting such an amazing recap with photos up quickly! I wasn’t able to attend but love living vicariously through your post and love all the tidbits shared! I had no idea the Rockettes had to audition each year!

    1. Leticia- thanks for commenting . I told my self i was not going to bed till it was done.. Not a good thing for me to write late at night. It was great seeing you however brief it was. See you soon.

  3. Really looks like a great way to work out. Look like you had a lot of fun and quite an experience.

    1. Sometimes bloggers truly get some amazing things to do this was one of them. I am thankful for brands providing new experiences for us. It was really neat.

  4. That looks like a lot of fun 🙂 one of my roommates, Kailee, went to it and said it was great. 7am was a bit early for me though :P.

    1. Seriously.. If it was not for Hillary I would have never made it. I also ended up taking a nap in the afternoon so I could handle the evening. It was so early.

  5. Sherri: Thanks for writing and posting so soon after the BlogHer 12 conference. How fun it must have been to dance – and with the Rockettes, no less! I love how detailed your post is with the photos AND a video, as well as your writing, of course. I couldn’t be there, physically, but I sure was there in spirit! I plugged into the Twitter back-conversation via the hashtag (#blogher12) over the weekend as I wrote my latest post about BlogHer12. I will definitely attend the 2013 conference. Thank you for allowing me to add my link above. Keep up the good work! Happy Blogging!

    1. It was a really nice conference we stated off sight. So we did not have any drama and no elevator wait. The Rockettes were great they spend some time answering questions so we learned what it is like to be a Rockette. Really cool experience. Next year when you come.. come say hi to me.

    1. The other Group was large that you were in.. I opted to film most of it.. I did not want to pull a hamstring doing kicks .. I did one kick and was like oh nelly I better stretch out.

  6. I’m impressed that you got up and went. I’m not a morning person and don’t think I would have been able to!

    1. Post as many as you like I love reading them Barb It was great hanging with you I will be post pictures later of that event. Hillary was disappointed she did not join us.

  7. How fun! I would have loved to meet some Rockettes but I think they would have kicked my arse with their workout. Kuddos for giving it a go!

  8. These pics are great. I so enjoyed the Rockettes experience and give them so much more credit now after getting a better understanding of just how athletic one must be to train like they do.

  9. How fun! I am so glad you got that experience and so glad I didn’t have to get up for it! LOL. I am so proud of you and all your exercising encouragement. I need to get on track here and lose some serious pounds. Time to get to work on our bodies!

  10. I couldn’t drag myself out of bed for the 5k, but I would have made it a point to get up for that! It looks like so much fun!

  11. I loved the Rockettes workout. I was so scared going into it that I would not be able to walk the next day. It turned out to be a fantastic time

  12. I would have loved to have participated in the Rockette workout but I had previously committed to the BlogHer 5K so I felt obligated to stick to my commitment. I just wish the BlogHer people had stuck to their BlogHer 5K commitment. It’s the one regret I have about BlogHer this year.

  13. Wow, that is really cool. Had no idea this even happened. So many parties and opportunities I’m still learning about that others did!
