Pulled Pork Mac N Cheese and Menu Planning 11-16-15

My heart breaks for Paris and Beirut.  When think of Paris I am reminded of a city that is kind and patient to foreigners which has been my experience.  I hope and wish love, peace, for safety for all in Paris and Beirut.

Kindness and understand can change the world

This weekend was fun, I went to NYC for a the KidzVuz Holiday event which is a toy and product showcase for bloggers.  Due to the events in Paris I was nervous about taking the train and going to Time Square with my daughter. I love taking my daughter every year to this event.  This year I decided to live by my mantra Never Live Scared so my daughter and I went to NYC.   After 911, I flew 11 days after on 9/22 with my family.  The point of a terrorist is to instill terror, I have to live and not give into the terror.   I feel it is important to share persistence and love of life with my children.

My daughter understood what happened in Paris, because she was watching the TV with me when the reports came on.  When we  on the train she showed me her earrings she told me it was in support of the victims.  I thought how thoughtful even a 10 year old can understand the impact.

More on my trip- I love eating when in NYC because even the inexpensive restaurants are good, make sure you order the fresh cooked food.  The reason is because it is really hard to get a restaurant to survive in New York City with so much competition and the ablity for people to leave reviews if your food is bad you are gone.   My daughter and I stop by a little deli  she had a BLT and I had a Gyro both were fresh sandwiches with fries and the cost with 2 drinks $18.00.   What a great deal.

I also made Pulled Pork Mac n’ Cheese this past weekend will Pulled Pork on top.   I had a small pork roast 1.7 lb too small to make a fresh roast and I did not feel like cutting it into chops stuck it frozen in the slow cooker for a few hours with a can of broth, shredded it and tossed in BBQ sauce.  I also had left over Pasta from a dinner during the week.  I made a cheese sauce mixed the pasta, I had some small pie trays baked the mac n’ cheese for 30 min.  I add the pork and more cheese on top broiled till golden.  Yummy,  it was an unplanned meal I would do again.

My Thanksgiving Hero Nurse Deb #sponsored

Disclosure : This a Sponsored Post by Single Edition Media on behalf of La Brea Bakery

A few weeks ago I wrote about LaBrea campaign for ThanksgivingHeros. I wanted to share about my Thanksgiving Hero with you Nurse Deb. 10 years ago, when I was in the hospital for over a month I met Nurse Deb .  I was put in the hospital aka “pregnancy jail” after my doctors determined that I was unable to control my blood pressure on my own = hospital bed rest.  I was taken for a weekend,  which turned into a 35 days prior to giving birth to my daughter.

This time was hard since we were 2+ hour drive from our closest family.  I had very few visitors in the hospital besides my husband and 4 year old son who came a few times a week after work.  Needless to say I am social person and there is only so much Judging Amy reruns you can watch on a 13 channel hospital TV system.  It was a very lonely time looking at those 4 beige walls.

In enters Nurse Deb,  yes I remember her name (because it is the same as my sisters) and she was the most joy filled person I met during my stay. Nurse Deb has a very happy chill vibe –  a cross between Phoebe from Friends and Joy from Disney’s “insideout”.  This personality is not the norm if you spent any long-term stay in a hospital adult floor,  all the “perky” people work on the pediatric floor.   Since, I was alone Deb would spend time talking asking about what I was knitting, about my son, or  just life stuff, she took a real interest.  It was the human connection I was so much in need of I remember being grateful for her visits.  She made the poking at prodding more palatable.

thanksgiving_hero_3955a

I basically sat around as a human incubator for months, every time Deb came to check on me she was patient and not rushed.    After my daughter was born, I bumped into Deb in the hospital halls.  My daughter was in the NICU for 2 months, Deb again taking an interest asking a ton of questions.  I remember Deb saying was very happy to see me alive after the difficult delivery.  After just giving birth to a 2.8lb baby and feeling like a failure for not making term-mom guilt.  She was the 1st person who made me realize what a gift it was to be alive and everything was going to be OK.

Flash forward 8 years.  I am sitting in my moms group meeting and this bubbly mom of 4, nurse walks in.  Her husband Rick, is a police officer. The more I talk to her I realize this smiling engaging women is my warden and savior from the pregnancy jail. Over the last few years, I have grown to know her family Deb’s husband and 4 active boys. They don’t always have an easy road with both of them being in public service but they are very happy.  Deb works extra during the year and doubles up so she can be with the boys. During the summer Deb and her family spend time exploring the US and bonding. Compassion, Hope, and Love is at the core of Deb’s Family.

When I asked Debbie about her holidays,  she told me it has been years since her family has spend a Thanksgiving together.  This year she working the day shift on Thanksgiving. I would love for Deb and Rick to have a special memory thanking them for their service.  In my experience, Deb did not have to provide a warm smile and sit with me in the hospital but she did because she is true hero.

Verizon Gizmo Gadget Review and Video Review

Verizon Gizmo Gadget Review : I was recently at a Verizon event. During event they provided me a Gizmo Gadget for review.  This week it has been fun getting to know how to use the Gizmo Gadget Watch Phone. The Gizmo is geared for kids who are not ready for a smart phone but still need to communicate with Parents, Caregivers, and Friends. The control of the phone is in the Caregiver’s (parents) hands,  everything has to be set up in the Gizmo App downloaded from the iTunes or Goggle Play store. It also allows the parents to have access to child’s whereabouts and activity levels. I think of Gizmo Gadget as closed system determined by the Caregiver’s safety choices when setting up the phone/watch.

The Gizmo Gadget is the latest product offering to the Gizmo Line of kids phone watches. The pre-existing Gizmo Pal is geared toward a younger child because has less features. The Gizmo Gadget is for a older child preteen. The Gizmo line was created by LG for Verizon.

The purpose of the Gizmo Gadget is a Communication device: phone, predetermined text to caregiver, voice mails (send/receiving), a gps tracker, activity tracker, and to do list. The gizmo gadget does offer the ability to track jumping jacks, steps taken, compass, different watch faces, and some emoji’s to caregivers. Reporting status of child to caregivers. The watch can also be placed Quite Mode settings (up to 10 different times) by a caregiver can shut down at bedtime, school time. The Gizmo Gadget really does not have games.

Gizmo Gadget Review

Here is the break down of the Gizmo Gadget’s features we have found:

Gizmo Gadget Contacts Features:

  • The Gizmo Gadget watch/phone only has ablity to add 14 contact (3 caregivers and 11 others)
  • All contacts are entered by caregiver the child does not have the ablity to set up contacts.
  • The Gizmo Gadget itself identifies contacts by title (Mom,Dad, Aunt,Friend, Neighbor) not by name of contact for security reasons.
  • The Gizmo Gadget does not take phone calls from unknown numbers (meaning if the number is not in “contacts” it can’t be answer by child)

Gizmo Gadget Phone:

  • Phone calls can only be made to people on contact list
  • Phone messages can be left for anyone on contact list
  • The Gizmo has no way for the child to call someone not on the contact list (no keypad)
  • It rings they can pick it up or you can set the phone “Auto Answer” to pick up after automatic after 10 rings.
  • if you have 2 gizmos and they can call each other as long as they are set up as a contacts on each others phone (because both gizmos have phone numbers).

Gizmo Gadget Text Features:

  • The Gizmo comes with many preset/predetermined texted – the caregivers have the ablity to add a more texts
  • Predetermined texts only can be sent to caregivers (aka mom, dad, one other)
  • The Texts are set via the Gizmo App in caregivers phone not caregivers  normal texting app (you do get a notification from app that a text was received from child)
  • No Texts outside of caregivers receiving or sending
  • Caregivers can write anything in a text to child characters are limited 30 characters- so longer texts are broken up
  • Child can leave a voice/record text message for the caregivers

Gizmo Gadget Voice Messages:

  • Child can leave voice mails for anyone in contact
  • Child can get voice mails from Caregivers

Gizmo Gadget Web access:

THE GIZMO HAS NONE

  • They cant get on the web with the Gizmo Gadget because it is only a phone partial texting device.
  • Again: No Web Access from Gizmo Gadget

Gizmo Gadget Camera:

THE GIZMO HAS IS NONE

  • No need to worry about picture or images being shared
  • Your child can’t take them since there is none

Gizmo Gadget GPS Tracking:

  • The Gizmo Gadget app a GPS tracker of you child, from the app on the parents phone you can see where the Gizmo is at all times
  • The Gizmo App on caregiver’s phone (GPS)will also via google maps be able to tell you what route to take get to child
  • The Gizmos has a compass feature on the child’s gizmo phone (no maps on kids phone)

Gizmo Gadget  Activity tracking:

  • Step counter tracker
  • Jump-jack counter
  • Gizmo App reports to caregiver every night activity for the day how many steps they took over the day

Other Gizmo Gadget Features:

  • The phone does not state your child’s name on the device (this is for safety reasons)
  • Ability to set up a Quite Mode (up to 10 different time periods) for example when the child is in school, bedtime, homework, church time, activity time) The device will not make a sound (no ring or funny sounds)  but the call will show up on the screen
  • Ability to turn off the Gizmo Gadget from the caregiver’s Gizmo App on phone.
  • Ability to track battery life of Gizmo Gadget from caregiver’s Gizmo app (if you had a kid with a dead phone you know this is important) According to Verizon it last 9 days
  • The app tells you everything your child does on the phone (from location to changing ring tone and more)

Gizmo Gadget Fun stuff:

  • Kids can use moving emojis when send messages to caregivers
  • Kids can play with different voices when recording voice message to text to caregivers
  • Funny sound maker
  • It has a compass
  • The watch screen / ring tone can be changed by child from gizmo watch phone (7 to choose from one of the faces is Analog) (other options are princess, tron, digital more)
  • ToDo list great for reminding kids of tasks (set up in caregivers Gizmo App)
  • The Gadget is offered in 2 colors Red and Blue you can purchase another band to swap out the watch they have other  colors (teal, pink, red, blue)
  • Child can easily check in using a side swipe check in feature from gizmo
  •  You can’t get Text  through your phones text messages alerts (because it is a closed alert system)- only through the gizmo app. Be sure to allow “push /Notification” from the gizmo app on your phone.
  • To add the picture- click on the child Icon “circle” thing and a pop up will ask were you want to add the picture from your gallery or take a photo or choose an Icon. To add child’s name click on “child” and a pop up will allowing you to change child’s name.

I recommend the Gizmo Gadget for a kid ages 8-12 (up to end of 6th grade) as an entry level kid’s phone, prior to a smart phone.

Video Review of the Gizmo Gadget

The cost is $149 with a 2 year contract (dbl check) You can add a line to your account.   (Also I think you can use it with a different provider but don’t quote/hold me on that dbl check because since Verizon is my cell phone provider not an issue for us as a family ).

Final Thoughts on the Gizmo Gadget is a great product for a parent who does not want to give there child full access to the adult products. (aka the web and ablity to call text anyone) I love this product for where my daughter is at in her development. For me,  she should not have access to everything on the internet yet. I love the fact the Gizmo Gadget has the safe guards built in. I know that when she moves into middle school in 7th grade, I will need to get her a smarter phone at the right time for us as a family.  The Verizon Gizmo Gadget has the perfect amount of “smart” for this point in her journey as a child.

Disclosure: I was provided a nice meal and a gift bag that included the Gizmo from Verizon for attending the event.  The thoughts and opinions are my own.

Netflix Series and TV Series worth watching

Netflix Series and TV Series worth watching

Netflix Series and TV Series worth watching:I really enjoy TV. I see it as my time to be quiet and relax. When I was in labor with him.. I was induced and it was not working, after a entire day of 15min contractions. I talked the nurse into bring  me back to a regular room so I could eat a hamburger and watch Rosewell on Tv (Rosewell was a Teen Scifi TV show starting a young Katherine Hegel). My doctor said I was going to lose my bed in labor and delivery. So I cut a deal I will go back to the labor floor after I watched Roswell. Seriously TV I delayed the birth of my son.. For a TV Show.
After my sons Birth in 2001 while staying at home, I was stressed out because I had no down time. AKA TV, because my infant took 2 hours to fall asleep. (Don’t judge I was a 1st time mother who nursed him to sleep and he transferred like crap.) My Husband for some reason never videotaped my shows.
Then I went on a business trip and a gentleman  the Mexico City Airport, told me about TVIO. I was a 1st generation used of Tivo .. Yep long before cable added DVR’s there was TV a DVR box with a lifetime membership. The idea of watching TV and skipping commercials was a god sent. Tivo was great but.. Technology changed and I moved on.. Enter my cable DVR, then
Well Hello Netflix
My TV addiction take a new level.. binge watching. I love a good series, made available to me quickly without having to wait weeks.. bonus. I have to actually stop myself from watching an entire season, because I get nothing done.
Yep laundry can wait for the Orange is the New Black. There must be a 12 step program for Netflix over users.. if so I need to Join. So I have doen the research for you my readers at the cost of my kids not have clean socks and dirty floors. Here are my recommendations for you to waste time and relax.

Netflix Series and TV Series worth watching:

  • Frankie and Gracie: Staring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda a smart series on women in their 60/70’s starting over after their husbands leave them for each other. This series is in its 1st season
  • Orange and the New Black: Is about a women’s prison. This sexually graphic drama plus a touch of humor with great character development. You can’t walk away as you become invested in these women’s lives as you root for them. 3 season available on NetFlix
  • Walking Dead from AMC on Netflix: This is a show my brother talked me into watching. I originally said no thank you Zombies. He said it is better than that you stop loosing sight of the Zombies and it become about the characters and how people change in the face of an apocalypse. I actually enjoyed watching this with my Husband and teenage Son we all would try to predict the future of the characters. 5 Seasons
  • House of Cards: This was a hard series for me to get into because it is a little slow at 1st. I loved the twists and turns the characters made. It is a show to watch slowly and enjoy.. a little bit does a long way. 3 season on netflix.
  • Shameless: This is HBO series. It is a very adult show (sex, volaice more) . I am amazed at the characters The story centers around a low income family in Detroit. Dad is a drunk and terrible father. The Older sister tries to hold the family together and all the Kids on track but she has her down falls. The Eldest brother is a Genius and trying to figure out if he is a mess or will he embrace his gifts. There is also a Gay brother. It is a amazing view of a family’s struggle and joy with what they have. You will spend time watching them thinking is this real? 5 Seasons
  • Wet Hot American Summer: The newest Netflix original Series with Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler and Bradley Copper It is about summer of these 20 something at a camp. It is a Prequel for a Movie before these actors were huge stars. I have not viewed it yet, but I am sure It will be well done. First 8 Episodes available

So that is it my favorite list of shows to enjoy this summer and beat the Heat inside and watching. What are your favorite Tv Series?

Finding Time for Happiness

sponsored post

girl reading

Finding Time for Happiness:  Everyday I am crazy busy (notice the name of my blog? )  and don’t have enough hours to accomplish all that I would like to do.   I would love a minute to read those stack of books I have sitting in the coner of my bedroom, or finish the quilt I have based up.  I am not alone in the this feeling.  The Long summer days are a natural time for Americans to re-focus their time to do more of what they enjoy, but it can still be challenging to make any extra time. In fact, according to a new survey by Safeco Insurance, more than four in five respondents agree they need an extra hour in the day with 70 percent admitting they would use that extra time to do something for themselves.

New Study Shows Every Hour Counts for Time-Crunched Americans’ Quest for Happiness

Safeco Insurance® Launches #MY60 to Encourage Finding an Hour a Day to Do More
The survey results showed that people are working longer hours, but 45 percent are realizing less happiness in their extended workdays. Nearly half say that finding just sixty minutes more in their day to do something they enjoy would make them happy and relaxed. Topping the list of activities for a “do more hour” were personal hobbies (40%), having alone or personal time (29%) and trying something new (22%).

With over half of respondents admitting to feeling more inspired to find free time during summer, Safeco is launching the #MY60 campaign to encourage people to take back 60 minutes of their day over a 60-day period. Safeco is inviting consumers to visit www.safeco.com/MY60 to find tips and checklists on how to create and maximize a “do more hour” for themselves. The site will also feature expert advice from Jonathan Alpert, a Manhattan-based psychotherapist and author of the book “Be Fearless: Change Your Life in 28 Days.”

“Part of Safeco’s mission is to help both our customers and independent agents get more out of life from getting more involved in their communities to tackling a new challenge,” said Matthew Nickerson, President, Safeco Insurance. “We hope Safeco’s #MY60 campaign will empower people with the tools to help them find an hour or any extra time in their day to do what makes them happiest.”

The survey also demonstrated the tug-pull feeling Americans have on how much time they spend on things they have-to-do versus things they want-to-do, with respondents aspiring to a near 50/50 split. However, the study shows a different story as respondents report actually spending two-thirds of their time on have-to-do activities as opposed to only 33 percent focusing on want-to-do activities.

When it comes to managing time, 66 percent of those surveyed believe they are only somewhat successful or not successful at all with their time management. In fact, only one-third of respondents feel that they successfully manage their time and complete daily to-do lists.

There are also negative consequences to not having enough hours in the day to get through everything. Over half of respondents admitted to using a negative behavior such as overeating to cope with not accomplishing everything they need to do. These behaviors are likely having a negative impact on relationships. One-quarter say they withdraw from other people and 24 percent become angry with others to cope.

“The best way to avoid negative behaviors stemming from not having enough time to do it all is to change your thinking about what needs to be done,” notes Alpert. “Carving out an hour in the day of ‘me’ time is essential to personal happiness.”

Alpert offers several tips to help find an hour a day to do more including:

Change your thinking. “I’m so busy” and “I don’t have time for anything” are negative comments that are sure to keep you feeling overwhelmed. Think more along the lines of making good use of the time that you do have or having perspective that you can only do so much in one day and to accomplish what’s reasonable for that given day. Empower yourself to think “can” and “will” instead of “can’t” and “have to.”

Track how you spend your time. Do this for one week. Many people are entirely unaware of what they do hour to hour and where the day goes. The simple exercise of noting what you’re doing each hour can have a huge impact. Track your time and know where you’re spending it.

Determine which tasks and activities are vital and which are optional. Structure other tasks around those that are vital. Schedule your day by doing the important tasks first, using the first 15 minutes of your morning to organize your work area. This is when you are freshest and energetic. So often the less important tasks get in the way of other things that need to be done which can be distracting. It’s often easier to do the things that aren’t as important, but fear can lead to procrastination and ends up keeping us stagnant.

An Interview with Grundy the Bowling Bulldog

I wanted to share for my Wednesday post,  my Bowling Bulldog Grundy because a stupid pet tricks are no longer on the air with David Letterman.  Grundy will never have his day.  So my interview with my bulldog and a bowling ball is best toy for a bulldog.

Bowling Bulldog

An interview with Grundy The Bowling Bulldog

What were you like prior to taking up Bowling?

Grundy the Bowling Bulldog : “I had a problem I hated toys, I had an need to destroy any toy that came in the house.   I prided myself on distracting Llyods (my adoptive doberman brother) I would take his tennis balls,  shred them before he knew they were gone.   Rope toys with a knot What was the point ? to see who could get to the center .. kind of like a tootsie pop.  I even use to hang on the tire outside the one the “little humans” played on .. I would hang as it spun.   The Terminator of Toys  was my nickname.  ”

“I was  seeing therapist for a while,  she keep on giving me this red thing with a hole.  They shoved peanut butter in named after a giant gorilla.  I just ate the red thing.. it tasted like crap ”

So Grundy how did you discover your love of bowling?

Grundy the Bowling Bulldog:  “The large male human brought a large hard ball in to the house it was black and had some holes.   There was also a skull on it.  It sat near the door so I check it out.  I tried to bite it.   I couldn’t,  I licked it it was cold, so I pushed it .. it rolled.   So I chased it.”

Grundy the Bowling Bulldog

What is your strategy?

Grundy the Bowling Bulldog:  “My main goal is to keep my ball away from my humans and my brother Lloyd.  I am the perfect height to set my chest on it.  I also don’t like when it get stuck in a coner of the house. I try to maintain a speed that I can catch up to it.”

He continued .. “I recently got a new colored ball can’t tell you what color it is because I am color blind- True story.   The new bowling ball has  no holes or no smell of humans smell fingers  the old balls holes smelled of beer, pizza and cigarettes which was very pleasant.   This one since it has no smell I focus on the game more.”

Bowling Bulldog

How does your Family feel about your bowling obsession?

Bowling Bulldog:  “The big female human is always running around with a white rectangle thin in her hands when I am practicing always calling may name and saying look here.   The little humans chase me around when I am bowling it is very annoying.”

What are your hopes:

Grundy the Bowling Bulldog:  “I hope for a steak, more short walks ( I get tired fast the whole short nose thing and the heat), central air in the summer (again the breathing thing) , good belly rubs, no more manicures the nail clipping sucks, I also would like more trips to the stream.. I like the cool in the heat.   Also I would like a larger space to bowl.”

“Also Someday I would like to meet other Bowling Bulldogs and form a League with the little shirts.. dare to dream”

Have a Great summer check out Grundys Videos below.

What to Look for when Replacing Windows

Disclosure: I was asked to review Window Nations service,  I received a window for my home opinions in this post are all my own.

Window Nation Replacement Window

Window Nation review: Window Nation is a window provider that sells and installs windows, and doors for your home,  they service several states.   When I was asked to review a window company I was apprehensive a salesman will come to my home.  I was not looking for a high pressure sale.  When the salesman Dave came I did not expect to my pleasure I received an education in windows,  and how they can affect  your home.

Window Nation is big on excellent quality, they have one of the top rated companies in the window industry with an A+ rating.  Also they call for your feedback through out the process to make sure you were pleased with your service.  They want to be the best and are open to suggestions.   A company that listens.

You can loose the majority of heat through the windows in your home.   Dave the Window Nations salesman showed me using a heat lamp and a heat reading sensor how the different types of glass pains and gas can affect the heat that escapes from your house.  The window industry standard  that is 36% heat loss,  my original windows in my home the one I am looking to replace (single pain) window let a whopping  91% of heat loss. This large picture window in  home just think  my window was almost an entire wall, so think how draft my living-room is?    The Window Nation Window heat loss is 23% amazing way lower than the industry standard.  I was impressed to see the demonstration Dave brought- you could feel the heat through the glass on many of the samples,  the  Window Nation window you can not.

Put you hand on your window.. do you feel hot or cold how much heat/cool are your windows letting out?

window heat loss

The salesman Dave was super great he taught me in the last 10 years the window industry has really changed.  10 Years ago my husband I replaced all the windows except this large picture window, so I had some knowledge of what what I did not want.

The first thing Dave taught me was the fit of a windows and insulation is one the most important concern when purchasing a window.  (My old windows my husband measured.) Because if you have a great window, does not fit and it is installed improperly you can loose all heat or air condition just leaks out the sides.

Window Nations windows are fitted to 1/8 of an inch,  they sent a Window Nation Measure Tech who work for at the manufacture to measure the window so it fits perfect.  The salesman is not the same person who measures so your window,  they spend the time in having a person come dbl check the measurements, taken at the original sales call to ensure your replacement windows with be made to your exact home.  I liked the idea measure twice make once.

fitting a custom replacement window being installed

Then the Window Nations installers use a flexible latex insulation (OSI) that creates a seal around the windows that grows, expands, but also shrinks when need with the home.  The latex insulation is important because if you have the wrong foam that expands too much it can actually push out the window,  is what both Dave the salesman and John the installer explained.  It makes sense, your house is change with the whether so should the space around your windows.  Better efficiency better quality.

installing the latex expandable insulation

Window Nation Window that makes it a premium window.    I also learned about the windows and gases in the windows.  Window Nations have a high level of Argon Gas but also a non visual silver lining, and a UV protect-ant so your furniture will not fade.    The lower window frame slants down and away  to make sure that water runs off.  I think this is great I have a friend that said she bought windows and the did not slant away and had major issues with water pooling  not a problem with Nation Window Windows.

window nation window with a slanted ledge so the water does not pool toward your home

Also the glides in the windows allow it to slide easier then others, they are also very durable and cast metal so they don’t break (trust me my other windows have issues with bad glides). Visually the Window Nation windows are lovely the grids in the windows are shaped they are between the layer,  they are not just flat.  The windows tilt out and the screens pop out for easy cleaning

The Result :

We have lived with our new Window Nation  window for the month.   Hello beautiful view !  Out my beautiful window,  where I sit at my desk everyday enjoying my windows that open, and I can close them to keep out the heat.  I am never driven out by the rays of the sun because the heat stays outside on a 90 degree day.     The week in April the window was installed the the temperature dropped into the 30’s.

The first night my husband came home he from work  said “WOW,  I can feel the difference it is less drafty.”

It has made a huge difference in our electric bill and how much more we enjoy our home.  I seriously want them to come back at some point and replace the windows I replaced 10 years ago.  All I can say is amazing change in our home thanks to Window Nation,  it is the prettiest and largest window in our home great job.

Dinner Rules & Menu Planing

Dinner rules

Menu Planning I always try to make dinner a sit down event  in my house.  I might get a little lazy on Saturday but I really like the connect time with my kids.  As my children get older I always have a few rules for dinner:

Dinner Rules:

  • No Phones or text
  • Respect everyone’s time to speak
  • Have a story to share about your day
  • You must ask your parents how was their day and listen
  • Use your napkins not your pants
  • 3 bit rule- you must try everything (one try, taste, and one to decide) Food is not always cooked the same so you still have to try
  • Do not feed the dog from the table during dinner (Unless it is pizza crust and Mom is doing it)
  • No leaning back in your chair
  • Mom (and dad) gets a hug before and after dinner
  • You must eat your vegetables (I don’t care if you say you are a carnivore)
  • You must have 3 bites of meat (I dot care if you say you are a vegetarian-  and you are not you eat Bacon)
  • If you cant say anything nice then don’t say anything at all
  • No bodily function at the table (teen boy)
  • Share and answer the Question “One thing that made you smile today”
  • Everyone cleans their plate and puts in dishwasher
  • Tell the cook how good the food was and thank her for a great meal

I have to say I had  a hard time at first getting in this book,  my physical surroundings were the problem.  This is not a book you can read why watching your daughters volleyball practice, or in a room with other people.  Because the Soul Sessions has nuances that take time to build the story, you need the quiet place to think and relate to the book.   Once I sat down, snuggled in my bed with a cup of tea and kids quieted down.  I loved it!  It makes you look at your own life and makes you questions those connections of soul mates.  There were times it moved me to tears and the goosebumps down my whole body.   So I would say yes, read it.

This is a book to add to your kindle list.
