Now he has to pay me back.. the lovely teen age boy is doing all the laundry, dished, house cleaning, and  painting to pay me back. If he does nt he looses hos internet.  He also helps with cooking along with his sister.

Meal Planning on Budget with Teenagers

Meal Planning with teens : This week has been a long week I have been going back and forth to NYC because of family health concern.  So meal planning has become important. Since I have been back at work my son has been making dinner on some nights. He has been great asking how he can help.

Monday : Chicken Pot Pie cupcakes

Tuesday  Shrimp Enchiladas with Creamy Poblano Sauce from little spice jar

Wednesday : Tornadoes Hot Dog  from TasteMade on Instagram

Thursday: Burger and fries one pot From Betty Crocker

Friday: Homemade Pizza

Having my son help with dinner is amazing, not only is he learning to follow recipes and instruction but he is learning a skill.  So he wont only eat junk food his life he will learn cooking is fun.  I know he will make about 2 of these meals, anything helps.    I sent my husband the shopping list for the week since I am out of town he can shop for the ingredients.

This past week I realized old habits come back easy.  After several years of lean budgets which became a strong family bond of at home meals. Since I went back, my old going out to eat habit is back,  So I need to get back to meal planing.  when I come home with no meal plan it is easy to say lets go out.  Which adds up to $$$ and a tough hit to our wallet.  So I meal planed for this entire week.  My key is for me to be excited about the yummy goodness of what I am making.  Then I also like finding get deals on the ingredients, so I scoured the supermarket fliers to complied the shopping list. So I spent $58 on the meals below plus snacks.   I am excited to be back planning.

With the heat I am also using my crock pot to avoid the heat in the kitchen and dinner is done when I get home.

Madeleine Cookies and mold for cookies

Check out my Madeline Pans purchased from a thrift store. I love them they are so pretty. Here is recipe I used to make the Madeleine Cookies. I would like to say I had more to take a photo but they have a short 24 shelf life, the family gobbled them up.  I love finding great cooking and baking item at a thrift store or good will it saves you money and the older ones are seasons. Let someone else pay retail. It allows me to try out new ideas in cooking and baking with out the investment.

What to feed my family and stay on a budget ? Because of the colder weather I love soups and my family is a big soup eaters. The key is a great filling starch soup like potato or split pea. Add a loaf of bread and it is a fantastic meal

Welcome New Year.   May people pick a work that embodies the object for the year,  My friend Hillary Chybinski always tells me about her word for the year.  So this year I decided to pick a word. Since this is my 1st time having an objective or theme word. I decided to pick something I need to work on.

So..

My goal or word for the New Year is to “Finish”.  I am great at starting things but loose interest .. it might be the kids lack of interest or myself diagnosed Adult Attention Deficit.  I am going back and finishing old sew projects or finish all those blog post I hope to bring to you.

This past weekend I worked on several old projects.  I finished some pj bottoms that have been sitting next to my sewing machine for my daughter. I also worked on a quilt I started in 2003,  I really don’t love the pattern but I am determined to finish because I already have so much  time invested.

This week I hope to finish a few more projects.  I will be sure to share them with you as I go.

Menu Planing This week is a beautiful weather.  It makes me want to plant and grow veggies. We went to my husbands family farm this weekend. As we drove home we stopped by a plant nursery purchased veggies, a well established beef steak tomato plant.  I also purchased 4 different peppers red, green, yellow, and purple.   The finally veggies is zucchini  which I will really enjoy during the summer,  my kids really like roasted zucchini almost like a chip.

I am really looking forward of becoming one with my food, since I love to cook.  I have great plans to do it every year, then vacation happens and they all die.  So this year we are not going away so I am hopping I can keep my crop going.  On Pinterest I have found some great ideas for simple irrigation methods.  Also I have been reading about dirty and how to have great healthy rich soil.  The concept of growing your own veggies seems like a great idea.. but it also seems like it can be expensive,  if you don’t figure out some great DIY methods.  Check out on my pin board some great ideas.
